Wow, cannot believe that we have been in Maui a month now!! It has definitely been a crazy and exciting month that is for sure! We are adjusting finally and settling in to our new lifestyle here. It is exactly that, a new lifestyle. It is so refreshing sometimes to see how other people live in other places and realize that how we do it somewhere else is not the only or best way. Things are definitely more relaxed and laid back here but at the same time we are always on the go. We are at the beach 3-4 times a week either swimming, playing in the sand or watching the sunset. It is such a blessing to have that 5 minutes away. We also have a fenced in yard finally so we are always playing outside or eating outside with views of mountains around us...breathtaking. Tyson has been home with the boys for the past 3 weeks and is doing AMAZING at it :) He takes the boys to the tropical plantation every week to feed ducks/fish, the mall on Mondays to watch the hula show, the park across the street or just out and about exploring!! He even braved a 2 hour hike with Slade on his back and Josiah walking next to him!! He has AMAZED me the past 3 weeks, but I always knew he was a great Dad.!!! The boys are loving it here and are pros now at giving the "Shaka". Anywhere we go they see someone and give them the shaka, so funny. Josiah has it down, Slade does it with one finger but says it pretty good. They are also learning some Hawaiian words. Josiah is a fish, LOVES the water, going under all by himself not holding nos, amazes me. We were even going under in pool waving to each other. In his element. Though he does want an ocean with no salt..lol Josiah will start preschool next week and Slade will start daycare:( not ready for that at all, tears have been falling. Tyson will be starting work Monday and will be an assistant manager at starbucks (yes we are super lucky) and we were so blessed that he found a good job so quickly.
I am loving my job, but have quite the caseload. Love getting to drive all over island though on my way to schools. It is an adjustment as far as difference in schools. Many are just small portable classrooms, shoes/slippers off when you walk in and all the kiddos call me "auntie". So funny, but so cute.
Yes gas is expensive, 3.79 a gallon and some things you wouldn't expect are expensive..cereal 6/7.00 a box and bread 5.00 for a loaf!!! Coupons and costco help. We bought a Lincoln aviator and we love it, def a used car, but new to us and Tyson will eventually get a scooter, 400 miles on one tank of gas and it only costs about 10 dollars to fill up!! A very good way to get around for one person.
We are very much missing our family and friends and cannot wait to have visitors. We have learned a lot about our selves our relationship and how we HAVE to rely on God in times when we don't have others around:) He has def been our strength many days!! We are meeting people, neighborhood and church but those solid friendships take time to build.
We are going to Calvary Chapel south maui and loving it, learning so much and they have a great kids program. The boys LOVE it. Sunday I was taking the boys to their rooms and when we walked to other side Josiah saw Tyson and as loud as can be said "HI DADDY!! There's my Daddy!! LOOK" all during a very quite and slow worship song..yes that is my Josiah!!!
End with a few things we have grown to love here:
Farmers markets daily, fresh fruit from Maui even in grocery stores, having my own garden to pick tomatoes, strawberries, thyme etc., slippers, no air conditioning but constant breeze, perfect weather, swimming, costco dinners:), and roosters and peacocks walking around
things we need to learn to live with:
cockroaches:(, no family, tv is horrible after 9:00, football games starting at 7:00am, cost of gas, getting Josiah and Slade to share a room and getting Josiah to sleep past 6:00am :)
Hope you all enjoyed hearing about first month, I'm sure I left so much out and will blog again soon with some pictures.
